Islamic Terrorism and Western World

December 15, 2016

This blog was written at the height of Syrian refugee influx to Europe, and the Middle East Conflict.
Suleiman the Magnificent or “Kanuni” and his battles with Christian Europe in 1520s might be history, but in a very subtle way the conquest of Christian Europe is still being fought by Islamist groups.
In this modern day war, there is no Sultan or a grand coalition of feuding principalities of Europe, led by Charles V, of that era. However the underlined objective is same and present, though the players are much distributed, and their “grand objective” is often hidden under the TVs blaring, pundits’ babbling their opinions, and objectives reported about the current wars and Islamic group’s short term goals. And as in the centuries past, the current European leadership remains divided, some even have their heads buried in the sand. All this is because for being politically correct, Europe cannot imagine to call itself what it is, the Christian nation and society.
In present day Europe, we obviously do not have Charles V of Hapsburg Empire, his bickering brother Ferdinand, or Lewis II of Hungary, or Malta knights, nor do we have Sultan himself, but we have all the elements of the situation as they appear in 21st century. What we have as in the past,
the bickering among present day European nations, we also have betrayal of objectives between Hungary and Germany. And we also have similar disagreement on where the Middle East conflict is leading to, as was the disagreement in 1500s on the designs of Suleiman – The Magnificent.
In addition to above we also have bitter experiences of past stretching primarily from 1520s to about 150 years period between the siege of Vienna to the battle of Vienna and is continued to more recent incidents of bitter ethnic divide and Balkan war among European minds, the period is highlighted by the factional fights among Europeans. The Dutch revolt of 1568 to 1648, and Richelieu’s France, are some of the examples of the fraction ridden Europe. So faction ridden were Europeans that the opportunity to consolidate and be united was squandered even when the Ottomans were diverted from Europe to fight the Persian war. The underlined divisions still persist and are contributing to the current turmoil.
Current day, Turkey under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has moved far away from the nation’s constitutional secular identity. He heads a government of AK Party that is a proclaimed Islamic party. This government’s priorities are not the same as West’s (or NATO’s) in stopping Islamic terrorism in either Syria or in Iraq, since both these are primarily Shia governed, and that turmoil in Syria and Iraq is also helping Turkey deal with Kurdish insurgency, and the current turmoil will in the long term establish Islamic dominance of Europe, a cherished goal of Ottoman dreamers. Nearly all Muslims especially Sunnis of any geographical location cherish Suleiman’s success in his 46 year rule, and why not, he was comparably generous and just and he gave laws hence he is called “Kanuni”. With that image of Sultan, the current day Islamic Crusaders are spread far and wide, and not all of them have taken to arm themselves, nor all of them have just and generous disposition as Sultan had. In this grand design, Dawla al-Islamiya al-Iraq al-Sham (Daesh) or ISIS or ISIL is not the only player, it is only one of several visible ones that have declared their objective by taking up arms, there are several more obvious established states like Pakistan with nuclear arms and Saudi Arabia with enormous finances, that have same objective and would not hesitate to lent their support at critical juncture. Some of these states, covertly support the goal with finances, militarily and sometimes just by ignoring its atrocities and even very existence. Note that in all this historical perspective, one group of Muslims are not seen as players and that is not without any reason. That Muslim group is the Shia sect of Islam, led by Iran, Syria of Bashar al Assad, and present Iraqi government. This is because neither Ottomans in past, nor current Islamic crusaders who are led and financed primarily by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and their overt and covert supports, are followers of Shia sect. The treatment of last Rashidun Caliph and his assassination in 661 A.D. at Kufah is not erased from their minds.
This explains the unease of Shias in general and Iranians-especially the Khomeini-have on the prospect of Sunni domination, the distrust is deeply ingrained.
Now holier than thou attitude of European and even American leadership which is more mindful of not antagonizing the house of Saud, fails to see or at least fails to acknowledge this situation. In this context if Americans want to be regarded as honest broker of peace, they have lot of work to do.
The pictures appearing in media of displaced people suffering in the overcrowded boats, landing on the beaches of Italy and Greek islands, reports of deaths of and picture of dead child on those shores and people sleeping on streets, in short the pictures of the suffering people is not just pictures, these are pictures of peoples’ frustration and human tragedy, but it is also of the picture of the future national changes and of demography of the nations in western Europe.
It is not politically correct to argue against their decision to flee the conditions of their native land. They are caught between the proverbial rock and hard place, except that the hard place (Europe) has some “soft spots” that they are trying use for their survival. Thus any argument that European nations should not allow these people in their land, is inhuman, incorrect and will be sad if implemented. It is very clear that these people are victimized by their own people. They are the sacrificial lambs. For those causing the situation for people to leave their land, it is beneficial to their cause in either way. If the migrants perish it will be good propaganda tool against West and if they survive they will be the future pawns of the grand game of European Islamization.
Depending on how far in the history one goes to find the basis for the blame game, and what is the objective of the argument, there is no limit to justifications about who initiated, and who is responsible for the situation that lead to this disaster. However one fact is certain the influx of so many people will certainly change the demography of Europe especially that of Western Europe. A fact that Hungary made blatantly clear in its opposition to allow further northwest movement of these displaced people. And that is the real fact. The morality of the Hungary’s action may be questionable on short span of the people’s attention but the real fact is that Hungary is right in its thinking.
Let us take some assessment of what will happen in not too long future time span.
Germany is the most desired destination to reach in the minds of these displaced people. The German Chancellor, Angela Markel and her welcoming stand, has not helped Hungary’s position a bit, in the process, Austria has become a transit country to Germany and flood gates have now opened for more emboldened attempts to reach Germany. More deaths and accidents will be the byproduct of this action, these tragedies will be faced by front line states in Mediterranean, Aegean, and Adriatic Sea like Greece, and Italy.
The population of Germany is 80, 990, 685 per 2014 census. The birth rate is 8.42 per thousand, currently the Muslim population is about 3.7%. With current estimate of over 800,000 adult asylum seekers the population will grow by about 1%. This is in effect doubling the normal immigration rate per year. Note that normal immigration is spread over vast ethnic backgrounds.
The current age of most displaced personnel is in the range of 20 to 45 years, by the year 2050, they will be in their mid-fifties to mid-seventies, and the children who are of less than 5 years of age today will be in their thirties and forties, in their most reproductive stage of lives, the birth rate among Middle Eastern (Syrian) population is 22.76 child per thousand person. This is about 2.7 time more than the current German birth rate, by current estimate this translates to an addition of over 2000 children per year to the Germany’s aging population.
This estimate supports the argument presented by several countries in Europe against taking in any more refugees. The net effect would be that these new arrivals will draw on already week economic situation, they would remain ethnically divided and cause economic stress in the local communities. The result will be conflicts and chaos.
If experience of France and UK with large immigrant Muslim populations from Africa and Asia is any indicator on how these ethnicities behave, the future is not much to guess about. The unrest will lead to conflicts and it will offer opportunity for external players to interfere in the affairs of what is today a relatively harmonious and ethnically unified society. The conquest of Europe that Suleiman could not complete will now be complete.
Somewhere in the above there is a lesson for Americans to learn. The Islam does not recognize anything man made that contradicts God’s creation. Political meddling in Geography is one of them, the political boundaries are against the Islamic doctrine. Pan Islamic world is the goal, and they are progressively working on it.

These insights are pure gold! This article has provided a very complex and nuanced perspective on this issue, which is honestly very hard to find in this day and age. I personally liked the parallels drawn between the current situation and the historical events such as Suleiman the Magnificent’s battles with Christian Europe.
    Hope to learn more!
